Dans Energy Pvt. Ltd. , an independent power producer signed an MOU with the Sikkim Government on 5th Dec 05 for the implementation of the 96 MW Jorethang Loop Hydro-Electric Project (JLHEP) on a  Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The operational period extends for 35 years from commercial operation date of the project.

JLHEP is a run-of-river scheme with minimal storage of 0.45 MCM and no people rendered homeless or landless.The submergence area that will be created due to the construction of the diversion structure is only 10.6 hanone of which comes under private land or renders anyone homeless or landless.
